Electrical, Plumbing & Mechanical Permits
The City now accepts the new State Electrical License and Electrical Contractors License without requiring anything additional issued through the City. Homestead owners may do their own electrical work provided the City’s test is passed. All work must
have a permit. NEC 2008 Code is used.
City of Navasota Electrical Code Amendments
To ensure compliance with state laws, all plumbing related work must be permitted and inspected. Homestead owners may do their own plumbing work provided our test is passed. All others must be licensed by the State Board of Plumbing Examiners. Homestead owners may not work on any gas system.
Work on a plumbing system consists of additions, alterations, or repairs preformed on the house side of a water stop or p-trap. Water heaters are considered a necessary part of the plumbing system and are required to be permitted. IPC 2006 Code is used.
Mechanical permits are required for new installations and for making changes to existing A/C systems. Since the State of Texas has mandated energy requirements, a SEER 10 with R-8 duct is currently the minimum rating allowed, however, a SEER 12 may be used in conjunction with R-6 duct.
A heating system may have gas, but if electric heat strips are used, they must be part of a heat pump and only used as a backup. IMC 2006 Code is used.
